We live in a world of inspiring beauty and awesome forces, but we are
often so caught up in the busy-ness of modern life that we barely
notice it. Photography lets me open a window onto that world as we
would see it if we were able to focus and extend our senses: The camera
allows us to gather the faint light of a moonlit night, to trace a
river's flow in a single glance, to glimpse the passage of ages in a
handful of pebbles on a beach. If we look closely and pay attention, we
can see that the world goes on forever, and so do we.
In this
age of digital photography, we speak of "capturing" images - but really
it is you, the viewer, whom I want to be captured, transported for a
moment to the serenity of a quiet lake at sunrise, to the thundering
presence of a roaring waterfall, to that place of wonder we once called
home and now yearn to revisit, if only for a while. Come to the window,
gaze out, and feel your spirit be refreshed.
